Start a course or assessment (exam)

There are several ways that you can select and start a course or assessment (exam) in The Learning Center.

Start a course or assessment through your Training Plan

To start (or resume) a course or to start an assessment in the Training Plan on your dashboard, simply click the course name.

1-1

When the module description appears, click the course or assessment icon (if listed separately) to begin. If you’ve previously started the course, a message appears asking if you want to resume from where you left off. You must always start an assessment from the beginning.

If either icon contains a padlock, approval must be given from your manager or site administrator to take the course or assessment. Once you’ve requested approval, check the Registered Training tab of your Training Plan periodically to see if your request has been approved. The padlock will remain on the course, but the course will launch after approval has been obtained.

Start a course or assessment through the Library

TLC's Library appears whenever you select the home Home button from the top menu bar or select Library from the user menu User Menu.

  1. Scroll through the categories until you locate the one that contains a course you want to take.
  2. Click the category name to display the modules within that category.
    2-1
  3. Click on the course and a module description appears at the top of the screen.

  4. To start the course, click the course icon, or to start the assessment, click the assessment icon. The course or assessment opens in a new window.

Launching Skillsoft Courses

Your organization may have chosen to use courses from Skillsoft®, which include topics such as leadership, management, grammar, Microsoft Office, customer service, and project management. Skillsoft courses are listed in alphabetical order on the TLC home screen.  Skillsoft courses can be Scheduled like any other course. You may choose to set up Skillsoft courses as ‘self-register’, which enables employees to launch the course without having to request approval.

Troubleshooting Skillsoft courses

If a Skillsoft course fails to launch, or displays an error message, ensure that you have *.skillport.com and *.skillwsa.com set up as trusted sites and excluded from the pop-up blocker in your browser. See How do I set up my browser to run TLC 360 Pro? for more information. You may also want to view Skillsoft’s Troubleshooting page , using this link.

Skillsoft exams

If there is an exam associated with a Skillsoft course, it will be built into the course rather than started separately.  Once you’ve successfully completed the course and exam, you can print a completion certificate.

If you didn’t complete the entire course and/or exam, you may need to retake both. However, Skillsoft courses ‘remember’ the sections you’ve already viewed, so you can choose to only view the sections you’ve previously bypassed, or just take the exam. You must complete the exam to obtain full completion of the course.
