Changing the Number of Performance Levels - Performance Pro

This article describes how to change the number of performance levels for Core Values, Competencies, Goals and the final scores and ranges.

The number of Performance Levels should be determined during the initial setup before appraisals are in process. If you wish to change this setting after you have begun using the system, it is highly recommended that you wait until all current appraisals are completed.

Once there are no appraisals in process, this setting may be adjusted without affecting pending documents. Be sure to run a report to help you determine if there are appraisals in process.

If you changed the number of Performance Levels and then discovered there were appraisals in process at the time, these appraisals will need to be reviewed by the appraiser to ensure any scores already given transferred to the desired Performance Level. No data will have been lost, but it's possible the scores may need to be adjusted.

Note: The Performance Level number chosen determines the levels in the following areas:

- Core Values

- Competencies

- Goals

- Final Scores/Ranges

To Set the Number of Performance Levels

Click System Setup then Company Settings.

From the "Performance Levels" dropdown, select the desired number.

Click Save.

HR Performance Solutions provides full descriptions on five default Performance Levels. If you change from the default of five, depending on the number you choose, you may or may not have to develop new descriptions. If you choose less than five Performance Levels, the descriptions will automatically adjust to fit your number of levels and you won't need to create any new content.

If you choose more than five, you will need to create additional:

- Core Value Level Descriptions

- Competency Level Descriptions

- Goal Level Titles/Descriptions

- Final Score Titles.

See the article, "How do Performance Levels Adjust When You Change Their Number," for details on how the levels adjust and which levels may need new content.
